[Tip] How To Fix Printer Offline Error on Windows!

Many a times our printer just won’t print and it happens all the time for me. I encounter in it is that it suddenly goes offline in the middle of printing. The Printer Offline Error is quite frustrating. Thankfully I have found a couple of solutions helpful and thought I will share them with you.

Check your Printer

* Make sure your printer is switched on.
* Ink cartridges are installed correctly(refilled cartridges may cause some problems ).
* See that the printer is not out of paper.

If you are still getting “Printer Offline Error” then there is a chance that there is a communication problem between your Printer and the computer. This is managed by the Spool service in Windows and we need to restart it.
How to Restart Printer Spool?

* Click on Start button and Click on Run.
* In the Run window type “services.msc” without the quotes. Press Enter.

* A services window will pop up, scroll down and find a service called Print Spooler.
* Click on it and two options (Stop / Restart the service) will appear on the left top corner.

* Click on ” Restart the service” or “Stop” and then ” Start” the service any one.
* The Printer Spooler will Restart and the frozen printing will resume.

This method should work 9 times out of 10 when you get the Printer Offline Error while using Windows and a HP Printer. Do drop in your comments any more quick tips to resolve this issue.

Continue to Watch YouTube Video While Scrolling Comments on Chrome

A few weeks ago I wrote a post on 10 best Chrome extensions for YouTube junkies. I am sure that we all love watching videos on YouTube in full screen. This is fine but very often we need to resize the video to check the comments.

An ideal solution would be to be able to check and write comments on videos while watching it. If you think that is a great idea then Smart Video Enlarger is for you.

YouTube video resized as you scroll

Once we have installed the Chrome extension, try looking up a video. The video will play in full-screen mode as seen in image below.

Notice we can see the scroll bar in the side. Move the scroll-bar down to check out the comments on left on the video.

Once the scroll is moved down we can view the comments along and the video resizes automatically to a smaller size which makes it possible to view comments (See image below).

Additional Tip:

This extension is also very useful to look up and scroll all the way down to the end of the page without losing track of the video. This happens because even if you scroll down completely the video is still displayed continuously.

Do try out Smart Video Enlarger extension on Chrome and drop in your views through your comments.

List of 4 Ways to Update All Your Software in Windows

The frequency of software updates have increased day by day, due to which updating software manually has become a hectic task. If you’re a software junkie and have a lot of software installed on your system then, it will become a big headache for you.

This is the reason Update checkers have started gaining popularity. An update checker is a simple piece of software which checks updates for the softwares installed on your PC.

Why should you have a update checker?
■Update checkers generally have a database of latest software, so when you run an Update checker it checks the version of the software installed on your PC and the latest software version available in its database.
■If your firewall blocks these Update checkers, then add them to the exceptions list because they need to access internet in order to update your software.
■Software developers constantly fix bugs and release new versions so in order to stay away from security glitches you need to update software constantly.

Here are some of the best Update checkers –

#1. FileHippo Update Checker

FileHippo is one the best software hosting websites. Its software detection rate makes it the best Update Checker. It is portable enough. When I scanned my system, it showed me 16 updates of which 3 were Beta updates. As FileHippo doesn’t host commercial/shareware softwares, you won’t be able to see updates for paid softwares installed on your system.

#2. TechTracker

TechTracker is developed by the famous software hosting website, Download.com (Cnet). It is portable too but with less software detection rate. It showed me 13 updates. TechTracker has a major advantage over FileHippo Update checker i.e. it checks updates of commercial softwares (as download.com contains shareware too!).

#3. Update Star

Update Star is available in two versions; one is freeware while the other is premium/shareware. The freeware gives you access to only limited number of updates (it showed me only 6 updates). It has a good visual appealing interface (similar to Snagit Image capture utility) but it’s a bit bulky than the other Update Checkers.

#4. Software Informer

It is developed by informer.com. When I ran it, what amazed me is that it showed updates for not just software, but also for drivers installed on my system! But unfortunately it didn’t give the download links for the updated drivers; instead it gave link to my laptop manufacturer’s site. It showed me a total of 32 updates of which 2-3 were false positives. This makes it my second favorite after FileHippo update checker.

So use these services and make sure that software on your Windows OS is always updated. Do drop in your comments.

YouTube Enters the Live and Exclusive Era!

When television began, it led to a great number of television shows being produced and broadcast. It was an alternative to the 2 hr movie watching in a theater and mixed with news and other talk shows. But all this when it comes to revenues is secondary to live telecast. For any channel the inputs are minimal while revenues are greatest when they cover live events.

The internet is where most videos are watched. YouTube has probably hurt channel that aired music videos or shows that put together funny ads or home videos. YouTube is where a lot of video watching happens online. But all these are recorded videos and not live. Today YouTube has introduced a separate page on which you will be able to lookup and view all Live events.

Why Live Streaming is big for YouTube?

■Think of YouTube as a television. We come across episodes, advertisements and the whole nine yards. One thing missing is watching live telecast of major events.
■There are some websites that show online cricket, football and even news events live. Most of these website do not have much competition but now with YouTube Live, this might completely change. So websites like Justin.tv might need to watch out.
■The live page shows a listing for all the shows that will be streamed live. It also has a section with links to what is being streamed live.

Revenues boost for YouTube?

YouTube might be hugely successful for Google as a product but when it comes to revenues it can do a lot better. I guess with live streaming of exclusive content revenues might get a good push with YouTube.

Check out YouTube Live and look up some live content. Do drop in your views.

Best Way to Lookup All Keyboard Shortcuts Without Leaving Gmail

In my opinion Gmail is the best email service. It does have handy features and one of the most underrated yet brilliant one is support for keyboard shortcuts. These shortcuts allow you to do just about everything while using Gmail.

For example, press “/” and the cursor is put in the search box. While reading an email, press “p” and the cursor moves to the previous message

The logic behind these keyboard shortcuts is to use Gmail without using the mouse and hence speeding up your Gmail experience.

You can look up all your Gmail shortcuts at this link. Recently Gmail has made it easier to access this list.

While you are on Gmail, just press “Shift + ?” and Gmail will display all the keyboard shortcuts. This means you can look them up without leaving Gmail. Also we can now directly enable keyboard shortcuts from this screen itself.

If you like looking up images online then Flickr is a good website along with deviant art or even visualize.us which is very useful for image bookmarking.

But another very common and a useful tool to search and lookup images online is using Google’s image search. Google does have a neat way of displaying searched results for images. Another cool service I came across is Google Image Slideshow which shows all the image results in a slideshow.

Google Image Slideshow Features

•The website picks up 60 images from Google’s image search and displays them in a slideshow.
•The default search is the simple one bit advance options are also allowed to display only larger images, show images with a particular color being dominant and also a particular file type.
•We can also restrict the search to a particular website so you can search on Flickr for images and get them displayed in a slideshow.

If you are looking for images and have some time to kill, then looking up Google Image Slideshow is a lot of fun. Go give it a try and let me know your views in your comments.
